“OMG it’s weigh-in day again. I went to the gym mid afternoon to walk. I was feeling some trepidation. This has by no means been a perfect food week and it was time to face the ‘tell no lies’ digital screen at my feet. At least this weekly ritual means that every Friday (and most Thursdays) become the healthiest food days of the week. To my amazement I have lost another 2.2 kg, bringing the 4-week total to 7.6 kg. I can’t believe it. I should go out to dinner more often. It is obviously the commitment to walking that forgives the eating indiscretions but I don’t underestimate the power of deeper breathing and good hydration also. I am beginning to like this chuck-wagon diet.”
I have introduced small amounts of raw garlic into my diet. It has a good reputation as a natural healer but not to be overdone. 2-3 times a week, I chop it finely and add a little to my food and sometimes I put it in a double tea bag black tea (gross). It has to be followed by a teaspoon of honey.

T minus 39 – I actually missed not going for a walk
“After missing yesterday, it felt good to back to the gym for my walk. I started off slowly because my heart had started to get out of its box and beat erratically early this morning, but by the time the 1-hour marked had passed on the treadmill, I didn’t want to stop. Mind you, I was watching the cricket so I was pleasantly distracted. Food, water and Ki breathing were all fine however I am still hunting the person who left 4 pieces of dark chocolate within reach. My definition of ‘in reach’ is on the bottom shelf of the fridge at the back in a sealed container.”

“Little foo
d, little water, no walk and a lunch of salad sandwich on white bread with a mug of cappuccino. I have been out promoting my new financial planning and business coaching forum. Great support for an innovative concept! I actually missed the exercise today which has to be a good sign of a new habit forming.”

T minus 41 – dining out was a challenge
“It was another good health day including a brisk walk that finished with a night out at a local restaurant. The menu was a little challenging but I managed to negotiate a reasonably healthy meal of a small slice of garlic bread, seafood salad and a glass of wine. Damage contained pretty well I thought”

“It is another compensation day today. Last night’s lamb roast could have fed two of me. The walking continues. It is easy to do on most days and it feels like it is burning off a few excess calories every day.”
T minus 43 A King’s feast
“Did everything right, up until the lamb roast was served for dinner. I didn’t know it was coming I always appreciate such a feast. There seems to be no small serving option in this house. Oh well, I must take it easy on the eating tomorrow.”
My diet has slowly improved. I am snacking less and getting to love green tea and other varieties such as cinnamon & apple, green tea with vanilla, and ginger tea. I am adding a little fresh garlic to main meals. I am a believer in the root vegetables – onion, garlic and ginger (not the processed stuff with the sugar).

“Eggs and plain cooked chicken for breakfast and a seagull’s lunch (a drink of water and a look around); followed by my gym walk, a sleep and baked beans for afternoon tea. It doesn’t get much better than this. Oh dear what have I become – what’s left of me.”
I wonder just how much body fat I would lose (or not) if I wasn’t doing the 5.5km walk each day. I have made the walking the hub of this health recovery program and I feel it gives me some leeway with eating. I don’t have to be quite so strict because that’s not me and never has been.

“It is weigh-in day at the gym. Another 1.4 kg has disappeared this week, taking the total to 5.4 kg in a little over 3 weeks. That’s plenty fast enough. The important thing is that I am not really exerting myself with the walking and I am still having plenty to eat every day. I’m guessing it is at least 50% healthier than I was eating before.”
What I like about this method is that there is still some fattening food lurking on the chuck wagon. I am still having some chocolate and bread for example but not eating as much of it. As I look forward to the long term, I think this is a health plan I can live with. That is important because I must keep this weight off.

“Eggs for breakfast. Another air conditioned lunchtime walk on a hot Brisbane day. I added a green drink to my lunch of steamed vegies left over from last night. The green drink was green apple, celery and broccoli put through the juicer, with a carrot for luck Ok so it’s not green but it tastes nice.”
Here are a few of the foods I have thrown off the chuck wagon over the last 3 weeks:
Butter & margarine 100%
Cheese 90%
Milk 70% changed to A2 light
Processed sugar 100%
Biscuits 100%
Bread 80%
Chocolate 80%
Fruit 50%
